A maximum indicating pointer on a pressure gauge consists of a free moving red pointer positioned behind the main black pointer. Sometimes referred to as a tell-tale/tattle-tale pointer or drag pointer, it records the maximum pressure the gauge has experienced. As pressure increases, the black needle moves upward, carrying the red needle along with it. When pressure decreases, the black needle returns to zero, while the red needle remains in place. Users can determine the maximum pressure reached by observing the red needle. A small dial in the center is used to reset the pointer.
